How we helped

SynchroGrid performed the wide area coordination study for a client’s 138 kV transmission system to identify the coordination issues and improve the reliability of the protective relays as part of NERC PRC-027-1 requirements.

The study included reviewing the modeling of the transmission lines and distribution transformers and updating the protective relays within it. The operation of protective relays on the transmission lines and distribution transformers was evaluated and new settings were recommended to improve reliability in the system.

As part of the project, SynchroGrid produced a coordination criterion for step distance reaches and distance/overcurrent element coordination. The study was performed considering contingency scenarios and mho graphs and TCC curves have been plotted to document the operation and coordination of protective elements as per the requirements of the standard.
