Bridging Technical Expertise with People-Centered Growth

We are excited to announce that Marissa Simonelli has joined the SynchroGrid team as our new Technical Business Manager. This marks an exciting transition for Marissa, as this will be her first role with a focus on external engagement. While she has enjoyed her technical work thus far, Marissa is a natural people person, and she’s thrilled to be in a role where she can spend more time meeting new people and fostering relationships.

Marissa grew up in a small town outside of Hartford, Connecticut. She earned her Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut and went on to receive her Master’s in Power Systems Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. After completing her studies, Marissa moved to Boston, where she has lived for over six years.

Her passion for the power industry started at a young age. With both parents spending their careers at ISO New England, Marissa grew up with a strong connection to the energy sector. Once she entered college, she realized the immense growth and innovation happening within the power grid, and it felt like the perfect fit. With a family full of engineers — her parents, older sister, and aunt are all electrical engineers, and her grandfather was an aerospace engineer — Marissa’s path to engineering was a natural one. Her early love of math and science, combined with the inspiration from her family, made the jump into engineering inevitable.

In her new role at SynchroGrid, Marissa is focused on absorbing as much information as possible. She aims to grow both technically, as she deepens her expertise in protection engineering through the SARA application, and personally, as she builds new relationships across the industry. “I’m a firm believer that learning and doing your best are the recipe to growth,” she says.

One of the key aspects that drew Marissa to SynchroGrid was the company’s close-knit, collaborative environment. “From my first conversation with the team, it was clear that SynchroGrid is a community with a shared goal of innovation. Coming from a large utility, I’m excited to work for a smaller company where everyone shares a vision and a belief in the mission. It’s not often you get the opportunity to change the industry!”

Outside of work, Marissa has a deep passion for dance. She has been dancing since she was two years old and continues to perform as an adult. In fact, she runs a nonprofit dance collective in Boston, helping to bring artistry and accessibility to the dance community. Additionally, Marissa enjoys skiing, spending too much money eating out, petting every dog she sees, and peer pressuring her family to buy a lake house!
